Microblading Aftercare

Aftercare Instructions

Proper aftercare is imperative and you will not have favorable results if instructions are not followed.

Always wash your hands before touching the tattooed area during the healing process.

First day: Gently blot your eyebrows with a sterile cotton pad to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this a few times every hour for the first day until the lymph fluid has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents scabs from  forming. Once the lymph has stopped, gently clean eyebrows by wiping in the direction of hair growth with a dampened cotton pad. Pat dry.

Days 2-8: Dry heal. Eyebrows will begin to lightly peel/flake at this stage. Do not get eyebrows wet for at least seven days or until the flaking has  stopped. Use cosmetic wipes or a clean washcloth to cleanse your face, avoiding the eyebrow area.

Days 8-14: After the first week of dry healing, you may gently clean the eyebrow area with water when needed. Do not use soap or apply any oils, ointment, moisturizer/cream, or makeup to the treated area for 14 days or until the flaking has stopped.

Keep the eyebrow area as dry as possible.  Once the flaking has stopped, you may apply a rice grain amount of After Inked at night with a q-tip. Blot off any excess with a clean paper towel. If the area appears shiny, you have used too much.

  • No  swimming, hot tubs, or heavy exercising for 10 days following the  procedure. Avoid long, hot showers and activities that may cause you to  excessively sweat, as this will affect color retention. Use a clean pillowcase and avoid sleeping on your face during this time.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for four weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.

  • No facials, chemical treatments, or microdermabrasion for four weeks following the procedure.

  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the tattooed area for 14 days or until  the flaking has stopped. If you use makeup too soon, the chemicals may  interfere with the healing process.

  • Do not thread, wax, or use hair removal products on the treated area while healing.

  • Do not pick, rub, or scratch the treated area. Let any flakes or dry skin fall off naturally. Picking scabs off prematurely will cause poor retention and possibly scarring.

The first appointment, in many cases, is just for laying down the template. Fading and spottiness is completely normal and has no bearing on how you will heal after your second session. Any additions or adjustments can be made at your followup appointment.

What to Expect During the Healing Process

Immediately after procedure: You may have some swelling, tenderness, and/or redness around the treated area.

Day 1-4: Your eyebrows will be about 30-40% darker and bolder than what your healed results will be. Light scabs may begin to form.

Days 5-7: The pigment may appear somewhat raised and your eyebrows may begin to itch and flake. Do not scratch or pick!

Days 8-13: Disappearing phase. Microblading strokes may look blurred, uneven,  grey, or like they have disappeared. Be patient; you will not see true results until about 6-8 weeks following the procedure.

Days 14-28: Hair strokes will begin to reappear at a lighter shade as your skin cells regenerate.

Day 42: Eyebrows are fully healed and the true color is evident. Any changes or  additions that need to be made can be made at your followup appointment.

Once Healed

Exposure to the sun will cause fading and discoloration of the pigment.  Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area.

Do not apply any exfoliating products, anti-aging products, anti-acne products (e.g. benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, Proactiv, etc.), skin  bleaching creams such as hydroquinone, or facial products containing  alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), tretinoin (Retin-A), lactic, or glycolic acids to the tattooed area as continued use of these products will  lighten the pigment.

If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform your laser technician as laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area.
